By air:
Thanks to the proliferation of carriers, flying is arguably the best way to travel to Krakow from the UK. There are numerous flights directly to Krakow or to other Polish destinations nearby. Krakow airport (Balice) http://www.lotnisko-balice.pl is currently being substantially enlarged to cope with the growing demand. The airport is located 15 km (10 miles) from the city centre. Public transport buses (line number 192) travel to the city centre. Tickets (2.20zl – 30 pence) may be purchased at newsagents or, for a surcharge 0.50zl, from the bus driver. Alternatively, you may take a taxi. The price for a ride to the centre should not exceed 50zl (£9).
An alternative is to fly to Katowice, which is only about 50 miles away. Another option is flying via Warsaw. The journey by Intercity train takes about 2.5 hours. Owing to the popularity of flights to Krakow, particularly those of the low cost airlines we recommend early booking.
By road:
If you prefer a more leisurely journey you may drive or take the coach. Driving to Krakow from London takes about 20 hours. You will have to add a few more hours for the coach journey. Rail:
Krakow is one of Poland’s main railroad junctions. Five trunk lines connect the city with destinations across Europe. The main station is situated conveniently in the very centre of the city, close to the Old Town historic district.
